Domestic Violence

Domestic-Violence-AWPostImage.gif

Domestic violence is a deeply concerning issue that involves harmful behaviours within relationships or households. It includes various forms of abuse, such as physical harm, emotional manipulation, and psychological distress. These experiences can be incredibly challenging, causing feelings of fear, confusion, and emotional pain. It’s important to know that domestic violence is never your fault. You deserve to feel safe and respected in all your relationships.

What can I do if I’m struggling?

If you’re facing domestic violence or know someone who is, it’s crucial to connect with trusted adults and professionals who specialise in helping with these situations. They offer understanding, resources, and a safe place to talk about what you’re going through. Remember, you’re not alone, and there are people who genuinely care and want to support you during this challenging time.

How you can help yourself if experiencing or have experienced Domestic Violence:

  • Make a report: You can make a report at your local authority:
Find your local support services through our Directories section

  • Reach Out for Support: Connect with trusted friends, family members, or professionals like counsellors or helplines. Sharing your experience and seeking guidance can provide emotional support and help you explore your options.

  • Create a safety plan: Develop a safety plan that includes steps to protect yourself in case of future incidents. This may involve identifying safe places to go, having emergency contacts, and knowing how to access help quickly if needed.

  • Practice self-care: Prioritise your emotional well-being by doing activities that bring comfort and relaxation, like hobbies, mindfulness, or spending time with supportive people. Self-care is crucial for healing and resilience.
